EXAMPLE PROMPTFiction

Description: a 10-minute warm-up

Write a fiction passage inspired by this situation: A lighthouse keeper receives a letter dated tomorrow. It describes a shipwreck that has not happened yet — and is signed by someone who vanished ten years ago. Spend 10 minutes focusing on description. Use one concrete sensory detail and avoid explaining the character’s feelings directly. Self-check: which detail carries the emotion?

The Creative Writing Prompt Generator offers focused exercises for fiction, memoir and poetry. Choose a craft skill, difficulty and a 5-, 10- or 20-minute practice session. Each exercise gives a concrete task and constraint rather than a finished piece of writing. Free exercises work without an account. Use them to practice voice, description or point of view, then review your choices. Optional AI customization requires Google sign-in and uses the credit balance shown before generation.

Creative Writing Exercises by Form

Fiction: show a difficult decision using only actions and objects. Memoir: describe a familiar room from two ages of your life without inventing events. Poetry: repeat an image three times and let its meaning change each time.

Daily Writing Warm-Ups

Set a five-minute timer and describe a place without naming it. Add a person who wants to leave. For the next five minutes, show what keeps them there. Finish by underlining the detail that did the most work.

Practice Voice, Description and Point of View

Voice: write the same invitation from someone confident and someone nervous. Description: choose three details the narrator would notice and one they would avoid. Point of view: rewrite a short scene from the person with the least information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this write a finished story?

The free tool gives a writing seed. AI customization shapes that seed; a story project can develop it into a scene outline. This version does not generate complete chapters.

Can I use it for free without signing up?

Yes. Random prompts, the prompt library, copying and browser saves are free and need no account. Google sign-in gives each verified account 6 AI credits once. A custom prompt costs 1 credit, an outline 5 and a revision 3. Remaining credits are shown before generation; failed or safety-blocked requests return the reserved cost.

What gets saved when I develop an idea?

Browser-saved prompt cards stay in that browser. After Google sign-in, story projects, briefs, locked facts and outline versions are saved to your account. Sign in with the same Google account to return to them. Project reading, fact editing and text export do not use AI credits. Export work you want to keep independently.

Can I change the details of a prompt?

Yes. Treat a free seed as a starting point and edit it yourself, or add constraints in AI mode. A project lets you lock facts before asking for a revised outline.

What content can I request?

Non-explicit creative writing, including romance, suspense and atmospheric horror. AI requests and results are checked for explicit sexual content, sexual content involving minors, graphic gore, targeted abuse and instructions for serious real-world harm.
